TESTING, testing, testing…that’s the prototype 918 Porsche Spyder.
The hybrid racer comes complete with a series of electric motors – however, the real grunt emanates from the 550BHP V8 that will propel the Spyder from 0 – 60mph in just 3 secs ! The top end is rumoured to be nearer 200mph or 80mph if you are running on the electric !
Essentially this is the German firm’s race car for the future. Built in carbon fibre, it boasts some impressive technology, not least the dual drivetrain which combines to give a CO2 figure of around 70g/km.
It’s a nice touch, giving the Spyder the full Martini paint job which harks back to the seventies partnership between Porsche and Martini which resulted in some iconic cars’ and stunning results for the pair. And the good news is that it’s being revived, with the drinks manufacturer stepping up to provide a commercial partnership for Porsche again.
